WANT INTEGRITY IN ARMY LEADERSHIP - KING MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR: The army must uphold the highest standards of integrity and trust in performing its duties, said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Sultan Ibrahim delivered the message to army chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman during an audience at Istana Bukit Tunku, here, yesterday.

The king, who is the supreme commander of the armed forces, said leadership rooted in integrity must begin at the top and that the army chief must lead by example in promoting clean, transparent and accountable governance.

He also expressed hope that the army would continue to earn public respect and trust as a professional force free from corrupt practices while safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and security.

"Previously, I have repeatedly emphasised the issue of 'middlemen' or agents at the Defence Ministry… they should not be allowed to enter at all," said Sultan Ibrahim in a Facebook post.

Azhan was appointed the 31st army chief effective Jan 1. The appointment followed a decision made at the 631st Armed Forces Council meeting on Nov 19 and received Sultan Ibrahim's consent on Dec 1.

The king also granted an audience to Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, who was appointed to the post on Dec 16.

Bernama reported that the meeting included a briefing on the ministry's plans and strategic direction.

Present was the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof.

During the audience, Sultan Ibrahim shared views and advice, emphasising that all plans should be implemented with integrity, grounded in good governance and prioritising public interest.

Noraini, who is Parit Sulong member of parliament, was appointed to her role after a cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Dec 16.
