TOKYO
Japan's Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko will make an official visit to Paraguay in August to mark the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the South American country, the Japanese government said Tuesday.
The goodwill visit from Aug. 18 to 26 comes in response to an invitation from the Paraguayan government. According to the Imperial Household Agency, the couple will travel via the United States to Paraguay on a government plane from Tokyo's Haneda airport.
The prince, the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito, and his wife will pay a courtesy call to Paraguayan President Santiago Pena on Aug. 20 in the capital Asuncion, with the prince to deliver remarks at the 90th anniversary ceremony the following day.
The couple is also scheduled to visit La Colmena, where Japanese immigrants established their first settlements, and Iguazu, to interact with members of the Japanese community. They will leave Paraguay on Aug. 24 and arrive back in Japan on Aug. 26.
Crown Prince Fumihito previously visited Paraguay in 2006 to mark the 70th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the country.
