SPARKLING SOLAR ENERGY ADOPTION IN MALAYSIA
SPARKLING SOLAR ENERGY ADOPTION IN MALAYSIA
Among the available renewable energy sources, solar energy is of the greatest potential in Malaysia given that the country is located within the Sunbelt with at least 10 hours of sun daily.
Solar energy is generated from the sun using solar panels, the amount of electricity is massive. It can be used to power residences, businesses and lower the energy bill.
Given that Malaysia has a suitable climate for solar panels, solar energy is accessible for everyday use and this enables the generation of electricity using solar power throughout the country all year round.
Hence, the government has introduced measures to spark adoption of solar energy in the country.

POLIS DI RAJA MALAYSIA (PDRM) HOPES SIX MORE WANG KELIAN MASS GRAVE SUSPECTS BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE
KANGAR, PERLIS: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) hopes six more suspects in the Wang Kelian mass grave case be brought to justice.
Perlis deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Baderulhisham Baharudin said the six suspects were believed to be abroad.
"PDRM hopes the remaining six suspects are successfully arrested and handed over to the Malaysian Government,” he told reporters here on Friday (June 23).
He said today four Thai suspects were charged in the Kangar Sessions Court under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
"PDRM thanked all parties involved including the Thai government in ensuring the success of Op Wawasan Khas Wang Kelian,” he said.
In May 2015, Malaysia was shocked with the discovery of camps and graves in Wang Kelian known as the Wang Kelian mass grave which drew various reactions from people locally and abroad.
After investigations were carried out, the Malaysian Government submitted an extradition request to the Thai government against 10 Thai nationals on January 06, 2017 and both countries cooperated to track down all of them for extradition.
On Thursday (June 22, 2023), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said four Thai nationals suspected to be involved in the human trafficking camps and graves in Wang Kelian, Perlis in 2015 were extradited to Malaysia yesterday to face charges in court.
Saifuddin Nasution said with good cooperation between the two countries, four of the 10 individuals were found and brought to the court in Thailand for extradition.

BOY 17 YEARS OLD CHARGED WITH INSTIGATING GIRL TO BURY BODY OF BABY IN YARD - SINGAPORE
SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): A 17-year-old student of a popular school in Singapore has been charged with helping a teenage girl to bury the body of a child, and has also been handed a separate charge of sexual penetration of a minor.
There is a gag order on the identities of the parties involved.
The teenager was charged on Friday with abetting a girl, who was 16 then, to conceal the birth of a child by secretly disposing of the infant’s body.
According to court documents, he allegedly instigated the girl to conceal the birth by burying the body in the front yard of an undisclosed location on June 10, 2021.
The teenager was also charged with the sexual penetration of a minor. He allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old girl in a Housing Board unit some time in July 2020.
According to his lawyer, the boy is still studying at the school and is out on bail. He will return to court on Aug 7.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both for abetting the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body.

JAPAN FALLS TO RECORD - LOW 125TH IN GLOBAL GENDER GAP RANKING
JAPAN FALLS TO RECORD - LOW 125TH IN GLOBAL GENDER GAP RANKING
GENEVA
Japan ranked 125th of 146 countries on the gender gap rankings in 2023, the country's worst recorded result and the lowest in the East Asia and Pacific region, the World Economic Forum said Wednesday.
Equality campaigners criticized the outcome as a result of the Japanese government's inaction while the government said it takes the situation seriously and vowed to address the issue.
"The government as a whole will aggressively push forward efforts" to address the gender gap, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno at a regular news conference.
The annual report by the Swiss-based think tank showed Japan falling from 116th place last year, as women's participation in politics and the economy continues to lag severely. The country also remained in last place among the Group of Seven industrialized countries.
Falling below its previous low of 121st among 153 countries recorded in the December 2019 report, Japan nevertheless attained almost full parity in educational attainment and health, the report showed.
Japan's overall performance was slightly worse than last year with a general score of 0.647 against 0.650 in 2022. The benchmark used in the study varies between 0 and 1, with 1 being full parity between men and women.
The report, which tracks progress toward gender equality in the fields of the economy, politics, education and health, noted only 10 percent of Japan's parliamentarians and just 8.3 percent of ministerial positions were held by women. It also noted the country has never had a female prime minister.
The overall gender gap ranking was topped by Iceland, with Norway second and Finland third. New Zealand was the best-performing country in the East Asia and Pacific region at fourth, followed by the Philippines at 16th.
The organization estimates it will take 131 years to fully close the global gender gap, marking a slight improvement compared with the 2022 estimate of 132 years.
Among G7 members, Japan ranked last behind Italy, which placed 79th. Germany placed sixth as the highest among the grouping of advanced economies.
Japan also fell behind its neighbors South Korea and China, which were placed 105th and 107th, respectively.
The nation is ranked 138th in political empowerment, below Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which ranked 131st and 137th, respectively.
Japan's ranking was also badly hurt by its economic participation and opportunity rating, with the nation coming in 123rd place.
The trend is evident in Cabinet Office data, which showed 18.7 percent of firms listed on the top-tier Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange had no female board members as of the end of July 2022, while the proportion of the companies with over 30 percent of executive roles filled by women stood at just 2.2 percent.
"Japan is paying for its failure to increase the number of female lawmakers," said Mari Hamada, head of Stand by Women, which supports and promotes the participation of female lawmakers.
"In a homogeneous, male-dominant parliament, it is difficult to raise social issues regarding women such as sexual violence and emergency contraception, as well as the voices of minorities," she added. "Political parties need to set a target for female candidates and follow through on it."
Momoko Nojo, who heads No Youth No Japan, an organization that encourages young people to engage with politics, called the latest ranking a "manifestation of the current situation."
Gender roles are still strongly ingrained in the psyche, which has been reflected in the government's unfocused efforts to counter the country's low birthrate, she said.
"There are people who want to leave Japan because nothing changes even when you raise your voice," Nojo added. "I want (the government) to realize that the lack of improvement now will affect younger generations."
The gender gap report has been released by the think tank basically every year since 2006. This year marks the 17th edition.

4 SKYAMARK FLIGHTS DELAYED AT FUKUOKA AIRPORT AFTER MECHANIC FORGETS TO TAKE MANDATED ALCOHOL TEST - JAPAN
FUKUOKA
Skymark Airlines Inc says that a male mechanic in his 60s who checks aircraft before their departure from Fukuoka Airport forgot to take a mandated alcohol test before work on Monday.
The man’s failure to adhere to strict safety measures on the job caused four flight delays from Fukuoka, affecting about 700 passengers over two hours, Kyodo News reported. The mechanic reportedly did not consume any alcohol before performing safety-sensitive work, but nevertheless was required to take a test before starting work.
According to Skymark Airlines, there are two types of alcohol testing: the company’s own test and a government-mandated one. Although the mechanic in question passed the company’s alcohol test, a supervisor noticed that the government-mandated test was not administered, after checking his paperwork.
Another mechanic was dispatched to complete the inspection duties.
The law prohibits mechanics from working a full day if they fail to take the legally mandated alcohol testing before their shift begins. Skymark President Hayao Hora said, “We deeply apologize for all the inconvenience this caused our passengers.”
