ROBOT STARTS 2ND MISSION TO RETRIEVE DEBRIS AT FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR PLANT - TOKYO JAPAN

ROBOT STARTS 2ND MISSION TO RETRIEVE DEBRIS AT FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR PLANT - TOKYO JAPAN

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

A remote-controll
ed robot on Tuesday embarked on its second mission to retrieve tiny bits of melted fuel debris from inside a damaged reactor at the Fukushima nuclear plant that was wrecked by a tsunami 14 years ago.

The mission, which follows the first such debris retrieval in November, is aimed at eventually developing the technology and robots needed for a larger scale cleanup of the plant, destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

The extendable “Telesco” robot carries cameras and a tong to grip tiny nuggets of radioactive debris. It entered the No. 2 reactor's primary containment vessel Tuesday, according to Tokyo Electric Power Company.

This time, the company aims to send the robot further into the containment vessel to get a sample from an area closer to the center where more melted fuel is believed to have fallen.

It is expected to take several days before the front tip of the robot reaches the targeted area, where it will lower a device carrying a tong and camera in a fishing-rod style.

That first sample retrieval in November, despite a number of mishaps, was a crucial step in what will be a daunting, decades-long decommissioning that must deal with at least 880 tons of melted nuclear fuel that has mixed with broken parts of internal structures and other debris inside the three reactors ruined in 2011.

After a series of small missions by robots to gather samples, experts will determine a larger-scale method for removing melted fuel, first at the No. 3 reactor, beginning in the 2030s.

Experts say the huge challenge of decommissioning the plant is just beginning, and that the work could take more than a century.

JAPAN RULING PARTIES MULL UTILITY SUBSIDIES TO OFFSET HIGHER BILLS - TOKYO JAPAN

JAPAN RULING PARTIES MULL UTILITY SUBSIDIES TO OFFSET HIGHER BILLS - TOKYO JAPAN

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

Senior members of Japan's ruling parties agreed Tuesday to consider reinstating subsidies to reduce summer electricity and gas bills, as households continue to grapple with the pain of surging prices.

Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Hiroshi Moriyama said after holding talks with his Komeito party counterpart Makoto Nishida that using reserve funds for the current fiscal year could be an option to fund the subsidies.

Moriyama said they also must consult opposition parties, given that the ruling coalition does not hold a majority in the House of Representatives.

The government introduced subsidies for utility bills between August and October last year as the country experienced scorching heat that drove up household electricity usage.

LDP Diet affairs chief Tetsushi Sakamoto told reporters that his party will push for an earlier implementation of the subsidy program, possibly in June or earlier. Komeito Diet affairs chief Hidemichi Sato also voiced support for quick action.

To counter rising energy prices following Russia's war in Ukraine and yen weakness, the Japanese government initially introduced the utility bill subsidies between January 2023 and May 2024.

The program has since continued off and on, though subsidies have been scaled back. The government allocated more than 4 trillion yen in total.

"The Flag: A Symbol of National Pride and Citizen Responsibility"- RESPECT OUR MALAYSIA FLAG

 "The Flag: A Symbol of National Pride and Citizen Responsibility"- RESPECT OUR MALAYSIA FLAG

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

A county flag is a flag that represents a county, which is a local region within a country.

It is similar to how a country has a national flag, but a county (a smaller area inside a country) has its own special flag.

  • Example: In England, counties like Yorkshire or Cornwall have their own county flags.

  • Purpose: County flags often show important symbols, colors, or history related to that specific area.

  • Use: They are used during local events, festivals, or on government buildings to show pride in the county.

WHY COUNTRY FLAG IMPORTANT ?

A county flag is important because it represents the pride, history, and identity of a local community. It often includes symbols, colors, or designs that reflect the county’s culture, geography, or historical events. By flying a county flag, people can show their connection to their home and celebrate what makes their area unique. County flags also help bring people together during festivals, sports events, and public celebrations, creating a stronger sense of unity and belonging. In this way, a county flag is more than just a symbol — it is a powerful reminder of the shared heritage and spirit of the people who live there.

IF SOMEONE DESTROY'S OF UNRESPECT A COUNTRY FLAG ?

A flag is more than just a piece of cloth — it represents the people, history, struggles, and pride of a nation. When someone destroys it, it can feel like an attack on the identity and dignity of the country and its citizens. It often causes anger, sadness, or outrage, especially among people who deeply respect their nation. In some countries, destroying the national flag is even illegal and can lead to punishment.

However, in some places, people may also see it as a form of protest or free speech — depending on the situation and the country's laws. It really depends on the culture, the reason behind the action, and how people interpret it.

WHY MINISTERS OR MINISTRIES MIGHT NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THE TRUE IMPORTANCE OF THE COUNTRY'S FLAG ?

Sometimes, ministers or ministries might not seem to understand the true importance of the country’s flag because they become too focused on political power, business, or personal interests. They might forget that the flag stands for the people, the sacrifices of past generations, and the spirit of the nation. In some cases, leaders may treat the flag only as a formal symbol, not feeling the deep emotional connection that ordinary citizens have. Also, if a government becomes disconnected from the people, it may lose respect for national symbols like the flag. True leadership means protecting and honoring the flag, because it represents everyone — not just the government, but the heart of the country itself.

HOW TO EDUCATE THE MINISTERS AND MINISTRIES?

First, they should educate themselves about the history, meaning, and sacrifices behind the flag. Leaders must learn that a flag is not just a decoration — it represents the struggles, dreams, and unity of the people.
Second, they should promote respect for the flag through public speeches, ceremonies, and actions, showing that they honor the nation and its citizens.
Third, they should lead by example by treating the flag with dignity at all events, both inside and outside the country.
Finally, they should listen to the people, because the love and pride for the flag come from the hearts of the citizens. Good leaders respect what is important to their people — and the flag is one of the strongest symbols of that.

WHAT OUR IMPORTANT DUTY TO RESPECT AND PROTECT OUR COUNTRY'S FLAG?

As citizens, we have an important duty to respect and protect our country’s flag. We should treat the flag with honor by displaying it properly, standing respectfully when it is raised, and never allowing it to be damaged or disrespected. We should also teach others — especially young people — about the meaning and history of the flag, so they understand its importance. If we see leaders or others not respecting the flag, we can peacefully speak up, remind them of its value, and encourage them to show greater care. Most importantly, we must live by the values the flag represents — unity, loyalty, and pride in our country — so that our actions give true meaning to the symbol we are protecting.

3 KILLED IN AMBULANCE HELICOPTER ACCIDENT OFF NAGASAKI PREFECTURAL: PATIENT, FAMILY, DOCTOR LOSE LIVES

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

Three people died in an ambulance helicopter accident while transporting a patient to hospital off the coast of Nagasaki Prefecture on Sunday, the Japan Coast Guard said. The helicopter is believed to have made an emergency landing at sea.

According to the JCG, the helicopter, which was carrying a female patient and five other people — her family member, a pilot, a mechanic, a doctor and a nurse — was reported to have gone missing off the east coast of Tsushima Island in the prefecture at around 2:50 p.m. A JCG patrol boat discovered the helicopter off the coast of Iki Island, also in the prefecture, just after 5 p.m. and took the six to hospital.

The patient, who was in her 80s, her family member, a man in his 60s, and the doctor, aged in his 30s, were confirmed dead at the hospital. The pilot and mechanic, both of whom are male in their 60s, and a nurse in her 20s are conscious.

According to the 7th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the helicopter was heading to a hospital in Fukuoka City after it departed Tsushima Airport on Tsushima Island.

ISHIBA TO HOLD ONE-ON-ONE DEBATE WITH OPPOSITION CHIEFS EVERY MONTH - TOKYO JAPAN

ISHIBA TO HOLD ONE-ON-ONE DEBATE WITH OPPOSITION CHIEFS EVERY MONTH

- TOKYO JAPAN

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is set to hold one-on-one debates with opposition leaders every month during the ordinary parliamentary session through June, a senior official of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan said.

The decision marks a shift from the recent trend of fewer leadership debates and was agreed upon by the main opposition party and Ishiba's ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The first of the three debates is expected to be held on April 23.

The typically 45-minute exchanges have become less common, as many lawmakers prefer budget committee sessions that allow for more extensive questioning of the government. The one-on-one debates give the premier a chance not only to respond to questions but also to ask his own.

Ishiba took part in a leadership debate only once, in October, shortly before he dissolved the House of Representatives for a snap election that saw his ruling coalition lose its majority. The exchange was extended to 80 minutes at the time following opposition demands.

Former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Ishiba's immediate predecessor, held a single debate during his three-year tenure in June 2024. It was the first since 2021 when then Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga participated in one amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

FROM MUSIC TO MASTERY, MYANMAR STUDENTS LEARN CHINESE THROUGH SONG - YANGON MYANMAR

FROM MUSIC TO MASTERY, MYANMAR STUDENTS LEARN CHINESE THROUGH SONG - YANGON MYANMAR

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

YANGON (March 31, 2025): Ko Si Thu, a 27-year-old engineer from Kyaukphyu in Rakhine state, Myanmar, is on a journey to master the Chinese language.

With numerous Chinese projects in his hometown, he realized the importance of learning a foreign language to access better opportunities.

His approach is to join a Chinese singing class at the China Cultural Center in Yangon. He said he began learning Chinese about four months ago.

“I want to learn Chinese effectively, so I joined the singing class,” he said while waiting for his lesson on Tuesday.

Although he doesn’t consider himself a singer, he believes music will help improve his pronunciation and tone. “I’ve been learning tones and vocal training in the class,” he said, adding that he enjoys the songs of Teresa Teng.

Before joining the singing class, he had already taken a Chinese language course at the center. “There are many Chinese-invested projects in Kyaukphyu, so I think mastering a foreign language is essential. Once I become fluent, I want to work in my hometown,” he said.

Beyond language, Ko Si Thu has also developed a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture. “I feel connected to Chinese traditions. I’m interested in tea-making, calligraphy, and martial arts like Tai Chi,” he said.

Like Ko Si Thu, Ma Pwint Hayman Tun, a 27-year-old teacher, also joined the vocal class. “I enjoy dancing and singing, so I joined. I’ve been learning Chinese for three and a half years,” she said.

Coming from a Myanmar-born Chinese family, she has always felt a deep connection to the language and culture. “I also attended Chinese language and cooking courses at the center,” she said.

“This is my first time learning to sing. Some songs are hard to understand, but I can feel their emotions. I prefer classic songs over modern ones,” she said, adding that she enjoys music by Chinese artists Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo.

“Chinese is becoming more popular nowadays,” she said. Beyond music, she is also fascinated by Chinese paintings and cuisine, especially Sichuan hotpot and steamed buns (baozi).

For Ma Su Lae Yadanar, a 24-year-old Chinese bookseller, inspiration came from her elder sister. “I used to accompany my sister to Chinese singing events, which made me want to sing Chinese songs too,” she said.

Though she attended short-term Chinese classes at temples as a child, she resumed her studies a year and a half ago. “This is my first time in a Chinese singing class. I prefer modern songs over old ones,” she said.

For her, the class is an opportunity to improve both her language and singing skills.

The three-month course at the China Cultural Center in Yangon is led by Ko Phyo, a 31-year-old vocal trainer.

Ko Phyo believes music plays a crucial role in cultural exchange. “My goal is for my students to be able to sing Chinese songs by the end of the course,” he said.

With over ten years of experience in singing, he emphasized music’s universal nature. “Even if people speak different languages, they can share the same emotions through music. Songs are a way to understand and learn about a culture,” he explained.

Xiang Jianbo, the center’s director, introduced the singing course to attract young people to Chinese language learning. “Young people in Myanmar are increasingly interested in Chinese songs, so we organized this course to introduce modern Chinese music,” he said.

He also highlighted the center’s broader mission. “Our goal is to spread Chinese arts and culture. Since music is a powerful medium for cultural exchange, this is our first singing course, and we will offer more if interest continues to grow.”

The singing course is part of a summer program celebrating the 75th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations. “By introducing Chinese culture, from traditional to modern times, we aim to enhance mutual understanding between our people,” Xiang said.

Given the presence of many Chinese companies in Myanmar, the center also plans to launch a Myanmar singing course for overseas Chinese to further strengthen cultural ties, he said.

The singing course consists of 19 sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours and held twice a week. It was opened last week and will run until May 29, according to the centre.

SARAWAK CUSTOMS FOILS MAJOR CIGGIE SMUGGLING OPERATION, SEIZES OVER 16 MLN "KRETEK" STICKS - KUCHING SARAWAK

@Jr_Paku Midin Channel

KUCHING (March 26, 2025): The Royal Malaysian Customs Department Sarawak has successfully thwarted a major cigarette smuggling operation, seizing over 16 million sticks of ‘kretek’ cigarettes (clove-laced tobacco cigarettes) in a raid here last month.

Customs Department Sarawak director Norizan Yahya said this was one of the biggest cigarette seizures to date, with the contraband cigarettes valued at an estimated RM12.64 million, including duties/taxes.

“A lorry suspected to be used to transport the cigarettes was also seized with an estimated value of RM80,000.

“In addition, a 44-year-old local suspect has also been detained for further investigation,” he told a press conference at Wisma Kastam here today.

According to him, the cigarettes were smuggled into Sarawak through various ports, with the perpetrators employing deceptive import declarations.

“They falsely declared the shipments as various things such as textiles and other goods to avoid detection,” he revealed.

Norizan said the cigarettes were seized during a raid on an unnamed premises at Jalan Semaba, Mile 5 around 9.30am on Feb 12.

He pointed out that the premises was used as a storage warehouse for the smuggled cigarettes.

“An inspection of the premises uncovered 16,656,000 sticks of ‘kretek’ cigarettes of various bands stored there,” he said.

He said the syndicate’s modus operandi was to store cigarettes in premises in remote areas before distributing them to the local market.

“The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, which, upon conviction, can result in a fine of not less than 10 times the value of the goods or RM100,000, whichever is greater, and not more than 20 times the value of the goods or RM500,000, whichever is greater, or imprisonment for not less than six months and not more than five years, or both.

“Additionally, the case is also being investigated under Section 74(1)(a) of the Excise Act 1976 – attempting to evade excise duty by fraud – where upon conviction, can result in a fine of not less than 10 times the amount of excise duty or RM100,000, whichever is greater, and not more than 20 times the amount of excise duty or RM500,000, whichever is greater, or imprisonment for not less than six months and not more than five years, or both,” said Norizan.
