Police in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, have arrested a 32-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of trespassing and unlawful confinement after he barricaded himself inside a pachinko parlor and held his girlfriend captive.

Police said Yoshito Abe entered the pachinko parlor on Oct 5, barricaded himself in an employee break room while armed with a kitchen knife, and held his girlfriend —a woman in her 30s who works at the establishment — captive, TV Asahi reported. The woman was not injured during the standoff.

Police said that before releasing the woman, Abe sustained an injury to his own neck with the knife and received hospital treatment. Police arrested him on Sunday after he was discharged from hospital.

Police said Abe has partially denied the allegation and quoted him as saying, “I pulled my girlfriend into the room, but I did not intend to hold her captive."

Police had previously received multiple consultations from the woman regarding her relationship with Abe.
