31-YEAR-OLD MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING 19 CHILDREN AT HOME - OKAYAMA JAPAN

The Okayama District Court has sentenced a 31-year-old man to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting and committing indecent acts against 19 children at his home in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, between 2024 and 2025.

According to the ruling, between March 2024 and May 2025, Tomomitsu Tani committed indecent acts, such as touching the lower bodies of children under his care and their friends at his home, despite knowing they were under 13 or under 16 years of age, Kyodo News reported. He also recorded videos of these acts and of the children with their lower bodies exposed.

 

Presiding Judge Kazu Murakawa pointed out the malicious nature of the repeated acts committed against a boy for whom Tani served as a caregiver, noting that he "exploited his position as a de facto guardian." He also highlighted how Tani took advantage of opportunities when friends of that boy visited his home, stating, "He used numerous children as outlets for his sexual desires. His habitual nature will have a significant adverse impact on the victims' future healthy development."
