CREWMAN SUFFERS ARM INJURY IN FISHING WINCH MISHAP OFF TANJUNG MANIS - SIBU SARAWAK

SIBU (May 9, 2025): A 26-year-old crew member of a fishing vessel sustained serious injuries to his right arm after it became entangled in a winch cable during an incident off Tanjung Manis yesterday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis Zone Commander Mahkos Juing in a statement today said the agency received an emergency report via the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kuching, following a distress call from the vessel’s skipper.

“The victim from Bintangor was reported to have got his arm caught in the winch cable during the process of lifting the trawl board at around 8.30pm,” he said.

A medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) was swiftly coordinated, and the injured crewman was transferred to the Tanjung Manis Health Clinic by 1am for further treatment.

He is reported to be in stable condition.

Mahkos urged seafarers to remain vigilant and report any incidents, complaints, or emergencies to the Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone Operations Centre at 011-35728765 or call the emergency line 999 for immediate assistance.
