Is a form of inflammatory arthritis characterized by recurrent attacks or a tender, hot, swollen joint and red. Pain typically comes on reaching maximal intensity in less than twelve hours and rapidly. The joint at the base of the big toe is affected in about half of cases. It may also result in tophi, urate nephropathy and kidney stones.

Gout is due to persistently elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. This occurs due to a combination of diet and genetic factors. At high levels, uric acid crystallizes and the crystals deposit in joints, tendons and surrounding tissues, resulting in an attack of gout. Gout occurs more commonly in those who regularly eat meat, drink beer, overweight and the best thing is always eat seafood. Diagnosis of gout may be confirmed by the presence or crystals in the joint fluid or in a deposit outside the joint. Blood uric acid levels may be normal during an attack.

Gout can present in multiple ways, although the most usual is a recurrent attack of acute inflammatory (a red, hot, swollen joint and tender. The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is affected most often, accounting for half of cases. Other joints such as the heels, knees, fingers may also be affected. Joint pain usually begins over 2-4 hours and during the night time. This is mainly due to lower body temperature. Other symptoms may  rarely occur along with the joint pain including fatique and a high fever.

Long standing elevated uric acid levels (hyperuricemia) may result in other symptoms, including hard, painless deposits of uric acid crystals known as tophi. Extensive tophi may lead to chronic arthritis due to bone erosion. Elevated levels of uric acid may also lead to crystals precipitating in the kidneys, resulting in stone formation and subsequent urate nephropathy.

Historically, gout was treated with foods and herbal remedies. Many of those herbal remedies became the basis of some of the modern day gout cures. Colchicine is the best example of this. It is a pharmaceutical compound that is derived from the Autumn Crocus plant.

a). Holistic Cures

>> How to cure gout holistically involves different processes of raising the pH of the body chemistry up to a more alkaline level. Because alkaline is the opposite of acid, there are different natural gout treatments or remedies that can work quickly and permanently.

>> The human body requires oxygen first and foremost, then water, then various nutritional food sources. The processes of breathing, hydrating, and eating all present valuable opportunities to raise the pH of the body chemistry up into more healthy alkaline levels.

b). Allopathic Cures

>> With progress, other pharmaceutical drugs for how to cure gout developed from allopathic medicine. Since the 1960s gout has been treated with varying degrees of success with the drug Allopurinol. It is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor and is sold under various brand names. Primarily it works by inhibiting the production of uric acid.

>> Because the incidence of gout has risen so sharply over the last 20 years, how to cure gout is on the forefront of the efforts of the pharmaceutical companies. There are numerous new gout drugs either on the market or awaiting approval. Most work by the same technology of inhibiting the production of uric acid but others are attempting to introduce new technologies.

Making the effort to adopt strong breathing habits is all important. The action of breathing eliminates acidity from the body, oxygenates the blood, and helps pump the lymph fluid throughout the body. It also is the best method for controlling stress. This is critical for gout because stress results in overall toxic acidity of the body chemistry. That toxic acidity created by cortisol and adrenaline, the stress hormones, ends up having to be managed by the kidneys, just as uric acid does.

Staying hydrated with high-quality water, and eating alkalizing foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, also plays an important role in how to cure gout.

Herbs like turmeric and teas like tulsi are also good for treating gout because they are a strong, natural anti-inflammatory. As a topical measure, you can alternate soaking the affected joint in Epsom Salts, then wrapping it in a towel with ice packs.
