ZAHID WARN DON'T BELITTLE OTHERS IN BARISAN TO WIN : GE15

ZAHID WARN DON'T BELITTLE OTHERS IN BARISAN TO WIN : GE15

@Jackie San

IPOH, PERAK: Barisan Nasional candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15) should not win by belittling others in the same coalition, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

" Let's not focus too much on winning for ourselves only by belittling others and questioning the authority of friends in the coalition who are contesting," said Ahmad Zahid.

The Barisan chairman and UMNO president said in a social media (Facebook) post on Saturday, November 12, 2022 that it is not wise to ruin the chances of other Barisan candidates to get symphathy from voters.

This come after Ahmad Zahid said on Thursday November 10, 2022 that Khairy Jamaluddin had requested to contest in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.

Khairy then replied on the same day saying that he had no other choice and " had to do something on his own " to find a parliamentary seat to contest after he learnt he would not be defending his Rembau seat in GE15.

In his post on Saturday, Ahmad Zahid then said that Barisan Nasional's victory as a whole should be prioritised instead of focusing on individual seats.

He added that as the campaign period for GE15 is about to enter its second week, focusing on the victory for the coalition is the top priority.

He said to ensure Barisan's victory, there is a need for all to be united to achieve the same goal and know the real enemies.

Ahamad Zahid also said that Barisan has gone through a winding road in an effort to restore the party, and it was only after the 14th General Election that they began to recover and rise again in a series of victories in the Melaka and Johor State Elections.

He said the fact that Barisan Nasional lost in Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah for the first time. Even the votes of UMNO president and Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi also declined.

" So let us learn from Barisan Nasional terrible defeats in 2008 and 2018 by being united and focused on the coalition's victory. Avoid opening up any space for our enemies.

We must ensure that the 'black episodes' in the political history of Barisan Nasional becomes new boundary so that we will not repeat our mistakes," he added.

Ahmad Zahid added populist statements that could tarnish the name of the party must be avoided at all cost in a move to enthusiatic campaigning.

" In this period of less than seven days, let us focus as much as possible on Barisan's victory. Remember the purpose of contesting in the elections is to convince the people that only Barisan is the best choice for the future of Malaysia, and not the other parties," he said.

" Barisan's collect victory means more than an individual victory. Only after Barisan wins the elections, we will move to party elections," added Ahmad Zahid.

He said that anyone is free to run for party posts, such as the president, deputy president and vice president as long as they get support from the grassroots of the party.

POLICE OFFICER INVESTIGATED OVER SEOUL HALLOWEEN CROWD CRUSH FOUND DEAD

POLICE OFFICER INVESTIGATED OVER SEOUL HALLOWEEN CROWD CRUSH FOUND DEAD

@Jackie San

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREAN: A South Korean police officer who was being investigated in connection with the Halloween crowd crush that killed more than 150 people in Seoul City was found dead Friday, police said.

The 55-years-old, identified only by his surname Jeong, was found dead at his home in Seoul City, an official at the National Police Agency told AFP.

Jeong, an intelligence officer, had been working for the police station that oversaw the district of Itaewon, an entertainment area in the South Korean capital where the crush took place.

His officer...the Yongsan Police Station--is one of the targets of a major investigation into the disaster, including botched crowd control efforts.

Investigators had previously raided the police station.

Transcripts of emergency calls, released earlier this month by the police, showed their hotline had received 11 reports of dangerous crowding nearly four hours before disaster struck, but apparently failed to take action.

The 156 people that died in the crush were mainly young women, including a handful of teenagers and more than two (2) dozen foreigners.

At least 100,000 people had flocked to the area to celebrate the first post-pandemic Halloween, but neither local authorities nor police had planned measures for a crowd that large.

A handful of top officials including the police chief, Seoul mayor and the interior minister issued public apologies last week, admitting they had failed to prevent the fatal disaster.

Jeong had been accused of ordering the destruction of an intelligence report--which had warned of a potential accident over Halloween in Itaewon--among other infractions, the Yonhap news agency reported.

Thousands of people gathered in Seoul at a candlelight vigil over the weekend to mourn the victims, with public anger growing over the government's handling of the tragedy.

INDONESIANS MARCH FOR JUSTICE AFTER DEADLY SOCCER STAMPEDE

INDONESIANS MARCH FOR JUSTICE AFTER DEADLY SOCCER STAMPEDE

@Jackie San

MALANG, INDONESIA: Thousands of football fans protested in Indonesia's East Java on Thursday, demanding further investigation into police conduct at a stampede that killed 135 people after a match in October 2022.

Protesters, some carrying coffins and signs that said " All this because of tear gas " as they marched on the main thoroughfare of the city of Malang, also called for the tragedy to be deemed a gross human rights violation.

Indonesia's human rights commission has said police officers' firing of tear gas was the main trigger for the fatal stampede on October 01, 2022 at Malang's Kanjuruhan stadium, the worst tragedy at a soccer since 1964.

Indonesian authorities and the Indonesian football Association (PSSI) have faced questions over why police fired 45 rounds of tear gas inside the stadium, a crowd control measure banned by world soccer governing body FIFA.

Six (6) people including police and match organisers are facing criminal charges after the stampede.

" Dozens of police officers were investigated in an ethics trial but only three suspects. The highest ranking officer...has not been touched by the law," protester Andi Irfan, 43 years old said, calling for " ALL ACTORS " behind the tragedy to be arrested.

14 year old arrested for suspected drug trafficking in islandwide -

SINGAPORE DRUG BUST

@Jackie San

SINGAPORE:14-year-old was arrested for suspected drug trafficking, with about 9g of cannabis as well as drug paraphernalia seized from his home in Lower Delta Road on Tuesday, November 08, 2022.

The boy was the youngest to be arrested in an islandwide crackdown by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) from Sunday to Friday, which netted a total of 96 suspected drug offenders.

Drugs with an estimated street value of more than S$359,000 were seized.

They included about 146g of heroin, 882g of ice, 3,624g of cannabis, 402g of ketamine, 6g of new psychoactive substances, 243g of ecstasy tablets, 685 Erimin-5 tablets, 219 LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps and 23 bottles of liquid suspected to contain GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate).

" The seizure of 882g of ice can feed the addiction of about 500 abusers for a week, while 3,624g of cannabis is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 510 abusers for a week," CNB said in a media release on Friday.

4-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN HOUSE FULL OF DRUGS

On Monday, CNB officers arrested a 17-year-old in the South Buona Vista Road area and found about 371g of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

A further 36g of cannabis and drug paraphernalia were seized from his residential unit later.

CNB also said that two (2) Singaporean women aged 27 and 30 years old were arrested around Boon Lay Drive on Tuesday evening.

Officers found about 86g of ice, 330g of cannabis, 43g of ecstacy tablets and 60 LSD stamps on the 27-years-old.

" The women were later escorted to their hideout in the same civinity," said CNB. " A total of about 281g of ice, 456g of cannabis, 344g of ketamine, 77g of ecstasy tablets, 548 Erimin-5 tablets, 110 LSD stamps and 12 bottles of liquid suspected to contain GHB were further seized."

Officers also found more drugs at a staircase landing on the same floor of the residential unit - about 56g of ice, 756g of cannabis, 56g of ecstacy tablets and 36 LSD stamps.

The 30-years-old woman's four-years-old daughter was in the unit when CNB officers raided it, said the bureau.

" Arrangements were made to ensure that the welfare of the four-year-old daughter was taken care of, and she was subsequently placed in the safe custody of a next-of-kin," it added.

Investigations are ongoing for this case.

Those found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin, 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.

PERIKATAN NASIONAL'S NOMINATE ME AS PM - DESIGNATE NOT A DAYDREAM - MUHYIDDIN TELLS AHMAD ZAHID

@Jackie San

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Mr Muhyiddin Yassin said on Friday, November 11, 2022 that Perikatan Nasional's (PN) decision to nominate him as Prime Minister - designate for the 15th General Election (GE15) was not a daydream.

He was responding to remarks by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who stated that PN was a failure and the latter's move to pick a prime minister-designate was akin to daydreaming.

Mr Muhyiddin said on Friday that the decision was made by the coalition's leadership because the people wanted to know who the prime minister would be if PN wins GE15.

" There is no daydream or nightdream, we are being realistic, not talking nonsense. There is a basis, and this is a decision made by the PN leadership to name the prime minister-designate.

" This is to form a government...the people wan to know whether the future prime minister will come from the court cluster or (are) ex-convicts. Will the people want to vote? Or will they (the people) think it's good?" Said Mr Muhyiddin.

RM2 MIL BY AGE 30 I SAVED, WHICH I USED TO START INVOKE, SAYS RAFIZI

RM2 MIL BY AGE 30 I SAVED, WHICH I USED TO START INVOKE, SAYS RAFIZI

@Jackie San

PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR: Rafizi Ramli says he managed to save over RM2mil by the age of 30 from his time working in PETRONAS, which he used to finance to start up Invoke.

" At the age of 26, my starting salary at PETRONAS was RM3,750. After six months, I was promoted to a manager and my salary rose to RM11,000 a month and a year later, I was promoted to head of the petrochemical planning division at the age of 27 which was my salary soar to RM25,000 per month.

" PETRONAS then shortened the service period and retirement age from 60 years to 55 years for its employees, which resulted in me being paid RM400,000 compensation at the age of 29 for the shortened five years of service," he said during a press conference at the PKR headquarters here on Monday, November 07, 2022.

The Pandan seat candidate from Pakatan Harapan was answering critics who questioned his recent asset declaration, which showed a significant rise in the value of the company, Invoke.

He said that Invoke was RM4.7 mil in the red last year due to the inclusion of losses suffered by its two smaller subsidiaries which Rafizi said could be sold off if needed.

However, he said that Invoke itself had been performing well since 2020 after it became a commercial company in 2019 which in turn increased the value of Invoke's shares, which Rafizi holds a significant stake in.

" Invoke itself recorded an profit of RM507,000 in year 2020, which increased further to RM653,00 in year 2021 and is estimated to record at least RM1.5mil in profits in year 2022.

" This constant growth spurred a lot of interest from investors both local and overseas as over 90% of tech start - ups usually don't record profits in their first five years of operation.

" This resulted in the sudden spike in the value of Invoke's shares as more people were looking to invest.

" In fact, Invoke is now valued at RM105 mil according to the valuation on the MYStartup platform done by Cradle, a government-run tech start-up funding programme, " he said.

Rafizi also claimed that all of Invoke's financial statements had been fully reviewed and audited by The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Customs Department.

Rafizi, who is also PKR deputy president, had declared his net assets totalling RM18.85mil last week, of which over RM16mil comprised his share of Invoke.

This drew criticism from PKR's opponents, including Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad who called on Rafizi to explain the spike in Invoke's value on Monday, November 07, 2022.

BLIND WIDOW, 84, RECOVERS NEARLY RM 4.63MIL AFTER SUING HER TWO YOUNGER CHILDREN : SINGAPORE

BLIND WIDOW, 84, RECOVERS NEARLY RM 4.63MIL AFTER SUING HER TWO YOUNGER CHILDREN : SINGAPORE

@Jackie San

SINGAPORE, NOVEMBER 07, 2022: A blind woman, 84, successfully sued two (2) of her children to recover nearly S$1.37 million (RM4.63 million) owed from the rental and sale of her late husband's shophouse.

On October 31, 2022 the High Court dismissed claims by her younger daughter S. Geetha Subramaniam and only son S. Mogan that their mother had gifted them S$1.36 million of the proceeds, reprimanding them for their conduct in obtaining her signature for a gift document that no one else knew about except her son's friend, who handled the sale of the property.

The children, who were co-administrators of their father's estate with their older sister, said they paid the remainder of the sum owed - about S$6,400 - in cash to their mother Thamby Kannu Parvathi but could not recall the exact circumstances or details of the payment.

Rulling in favour of the widow, Senior Judge Lai Siu Chiu said the pair exploited their mother's blindness and advanced age.

The gift document was invalid as their mother was not aware she had given away her half of the Little shophouse when she signed the document, the court held.

The shophouse, in Dunlop Street, was among several properties left by Madam Thamby's husband Subramaniam Govindasamy when he died in 2013.

The properties included four shophouses along Martaban Road in Balestier. Currently, Madam Thamby lives with the daughter of her estranged eldest daughter in one of these houses, while Ms Geetha and Mr Mogan separately occupy another two of these houses.

As the Little India shophouse had not been covered by Mr Subramaniam's will, which had been prepared by Ms Geetha, his widow was entitled to half a share under the Intestate Succession Act.

In 2016, the property was sold for more than $2.6 million, with the sale completed on April 07, 2017 and the proceeds to be divided among the children and their mother.

A few days later, the widow signed the gift document - prepared by Ms Geetha - that stated that $ 1.36 million of her share of the sale proceeds would go to Ms Geetha and Mr Mogan.

Madam Thamby testified that in 2017 she asked Ms Geetha for her share of the sale proceeds, and again in 2018 or 2019.

When the widow was told by her younger daughter that she did not have a share in the sale proceeds, she approached her elder daughter in or around 2019, who told her mother that she should have received half of the sale proceeds, and took her to a lawyer.

After consulting her current lawyers, the widow took legal action against her two younger children, with her solicitors issuing a letter of demand dated October 18, 2019.

The siblings argued that after signing the gift document in 2017, Madam Thamby did nothing to dispute it for over two (2) years, which was an indication that she intended to give away her share of the proceeds.

The judge disagreed with their reasoning, noting that while their mother could live independently, she needed help to venture out of her home, to find a lawyer and be taken to see them.

She determined it was highly unlikely that the widow had even been given a copy of the gift document the day after she signed it as Mr Mogan claimed.

Labelling the pair as " WHOLLY UNRELIABLE ", the judge cited how the siblings claimed that the sale of the Dunlop Street property was first mooted on October 29, 2016, but this was contradicted by the agency agreement to sell the shophouse that Ms Geetha and Mr Mogan signed on October 01, 2016.

The property agent handling the sale, a friend of Mr Mogan's should not have witnessed the signing as he was not an independent third party who could be objective, the judge said.

He also confirmed that he did not read or know the contents of the gift document.

The contents of the gift document were incorrect and/or false, the judge said, adding that among other things, no evidence was produced to show that the siblings had taken care of their parents before their father's death.

Said Justice Lai: " Even if the defendants and Geetha in particular took care of the deceased while he was alive, why should the plaintiff have to thank them on his behalf by forgoing her inheritance ?

" The defendants seem to have put a very substantial price on their filial piety to their late father and to their surviving mother."

FOR SUSTAINABILITY CLEAR AND BOLD TARGETS IMPERATIVE MUST STRENGTHENS

FOR SUSTAINABILITY CLEAR AND BOLD TARGETS IMPERATIVE MUST STRENGTHENS

@Jackie San

INCORPORATING Sustainability into the business strategy can build business resilience, create inclusive value for stakeholders and contribute to solving global sustainability challenges.

For Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), it enables the mega telecommunications infrastructure player to meet its nation-building agenda, in addition to being a responsible corporate organisation.

TM Chief risk officer Mohamad Mohamad Zain shared the telco provider's pride in embedding environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into its purpose, strategic decisions and ecosystem for effective implementation.

" In doing so, we are better equipped to mitigate and respond to ESG risks and opportunities, such as the effects arising from pandemics or climate change that may impact our future performance - ultimately safeguarding the business," he shared.

The focus is on value creation or enhancement, in line with clear and bold commitments and targets to tract its near to long-term sustainability performance, including:

1) Protecting and Preserving The Planet via Greenhouse Gas Emission (GHG) Reduction.

Offsetting energy consumption requires long-term efforts. TM seeks to progressively cut down its GHG emissions by 30% in 2024, 45% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emission by 2050. It will fully adopt the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures framework by 2023.

" We want to ensure that we focus on improving our internal process before we further move into improving our Scope 3 emissions."

TM is also actioning a slew of concurrent initiatives to complement its efforts to support preservation of the environment. Today, its utility vehicles operate with lighter loads to reduce fuel consumption and further exploring to introduce a fleet of heavy-duty utility electric vehicles (EVs), which is subject to the availability of charging stations to support the EVs in the future.

2). Enriching Social Prosperity and Livelihood Through Digital Inclusion.
