MACC PROVED NO WRONGDOING IN MOUNTAIN-TOP MOUSANG KING FARM
PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not found any element of wrongdoing in the Kedah Government's decision to approve a durian farm on Gunung Inas in Baling, Kedah.
According to a Harian Metro Report, Kedah MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap said it had gone through nearly all of the state government's meeting minutes related to the project and other documents.
He said preliminary checks on the documents did not find any element of wrongdoing or misappropriation.
" However, we do not rule out the possibility of launching further investigations into the durian farm project if we get new information that is relevant to our jurisdiction.
" For now, no official reports have been lodged with MACC over this case.
" Instead, we took the initiative to initiate investigations and to get the necessary documents," he said.
The Mousang King durian farm on Gunung Inas was said to have contributed to the floods which inundated a village and forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents on July 04, 2022.
However, Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor denied that the project was the cause of the floods, which claimed three lives, stating that the ponds there had not burst as claimed by logging.
Energy and natural resources minister Takiyuddin Hassan also said the floods were not caused by logging.
MACC had initiated an investigation into the durian farm in July to find out if there was any element of corruption or wrongdoing in the mountain-top project.
