TWO PET PYTHONS ESCAPE FROM APARTMENT IN KAWASAKI - KAWASAKI TOKYO JAPAN

Two pythons kept as pets in an apartment in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, have escaped, police said Thursday.

According to police, a 19-year-old man called 110 at around 5 a.m. and said the two snakes had escaped from his third-floor apartment in Tama Ward, NTV reported.

The snakes are a male and female dark-colored python known as D'Albertis pythons (also known as the northern white-lipped python), measuring approximately two meters in length. They are said to be non-venomous.

Police said the man told them that when he woke up, he noticed the sliding door of the wooden cage housing the snakes was open. Police believe the snakes got out of the apartment through the balcony window which was open.

Police have warned neighbors and are currently searching for the snakes in the surrounding area.
