Two men riding motorcycles were killed in a head-on collision in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, on Sunday.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on a national highway, Kyushu Broadcasting Corp reported. One of the riders, 38-year-old Makoto Yasutake — a resident of Kasuga City, Fukuoka Prefecture — sustained severe injuries, and died 90 minutes later. The rider of a larger motorcycle, 63-year-old Yasunari Abe — a company employee from Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture — died about six hours after the crash.

Police said the accident took place on a gentle curve with one lane in each direction. A stretch of the road approximately 200 meters long was temporarily closed to traffic after the accident.

The police are investigating the detailed circumstances surrounding the accident to determine which motorbike crossed over the center line into the path of the oncoming bike.
