INCREASING CHINESE SCHOOLS TO BE BUILT IN SELANGOR IN YEAR 2023 - SAYS MB SELANGOR
MORE INDEPENDENT CHINESE SCHOOLS will built in the Petaling Jaya and Hulu Langat, Selangor districts to accommodate the higher demands for student placement at vernacular schools in Selangor Darul Ehsan.
Menteri Besar (MP) Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari told media the new locations were being identified and expected to be finalised by the first quarter in year 2023.
" At present, there are only four independent Chinese schools in the state, and all of them are located in the Klang district.
" In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of students at these institutions.
" There is a need to build more such schools to accommodate the growing number of students," he said, in response to questions by Lee Kee Hiong (Kuala Kubu Baharu - Pakatan Harapan) at the state assemly sitting.
On another question about the state's assistance for Chinese independent schools, Amirudin said RM2mil was distributed as of October 17, 2022.
On a related matter, he noted that some RM26mil was allocated this year for the redevelopment and upgrading of infrastructures at schools in Selangor Darul Ehsan.
During the state assembly session on March 15, 2022, Amirudin explained this allocation was a 11.6% increase from last year's RM23.2mil, which benefited 600 schools statewide.
He noted that RM13mil was meant for religious schools, RM13mil (Chinese schools), RM5mil (Tamil schools), RM1mil (missionary and independent schools) and RM1mil for national schools.
