MA63: SPECIAL GRANT FOR SABAH AND SARAWAK BEING COORDINATED BY FINANCE MINISTRY, SAYS ARMIZAN

BACHOK, KELANTAN (MARCH 05, 2023): The giving of the special grant for Sabah and Sarawak under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution is being coordinated by the Finance Ministry, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

 

He said the federal government, Sabah and Sarawak were now negotiating to finalise the formula and indicators for use in determining the rate of increase for the grant.

 

" Agreement in principle has been reached that the federal government would increase the special grant through reviews.

 

" Once a final decision has been reached, I believe the prime minister will announce the rate of increase for the special grant, and I'm confident the rate will exceed 100 per cent in the interests of Sabah and Sarawak people," he said.

 

Here told reporters this after the national-level conferment of accreditation on members of Kor Siswa Siswi Pertahanan Awam (Kor Sispa) at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan here today.

 

In January, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, after charing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting, had said the federal government had agreed to increase the special grant for Sarawak to RM 300 million.

 

Anwar said the amount was only for the initial stage before a specific formula was worked out to determine the rate for the annual grant.

 

The prime minister had said the provision of the grant was decided by previous leaders who saw Sabah and Sarawak as lagging behind the peninsula during the formation of Malaysia.

RUSSIA summoned the ambassador of Bangladesh on Tuesday to protest over Dhaka's decision to block the entry of Russian ships into Bangladeshi ports.

Bangladesh earlier this month banned dozens of Russian ships that have fallen under Western sanctions from entering its territorial waters, citing the need to comply with the restrictions.

Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement it had told Bangladesh's ambassador in Moscow that the move was not in line with "TRADITIONALLY FRIENDLY BILATERAL RELATIONS AND MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION IN VARIOUS FIELDS."

Russia's state-owned nuclear energy organisation Rosatom is currently building Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant, due to start operating in 2024. Dhaka has asked Moscow to ensure it uses non-sanctioned ships for delivering equipment for the plant.

PUTRAJAYA, KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia condemns the recent ballistic missile launched by North Korea, including the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile last Saturday (February 18, 2023).

The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said in a statement that Malaysia profoundly regrets the incident, which constitutes a grave threat to global peace and security.

 

" Such actions by North Korea only increase regional tension further and hinder the prospects for lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

 

" Malaysia strongly urges North Korea to refrain from any further provocative and illegal acts, abide by its obligations under relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and its international commitments, and immediately cease its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

 

" It is also imperative for the parties concerned to resume dialogue to achieve the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, " said the ministry in it's statement.

 

It was reported that North Korea test-fired the Hwasong-15 ICBM on Saturday, with the launch carried out from Pyongyang International Airport.

 

The Hwasong-15 missile reached a maximum altitude of 5,768 kilometres (3,584 miles), covering a distance of 989 kilometres, according to a news reports.

MOSCOW: Russia on Sunday (February 19, 2023) scolded Emmanuel Macron over remarks about wanting to see Russia defeated, saying Moscow still remembered the fate of Napoleon Bonaparte and accusing the French president of duplicitous diplomacy with the Kremlin.

 

Macron told paper Le Journal du Dimanche France wanted Russia to be defeated in Ukraine but had over wanted to "CRUSH" it.

 

" About 'Never': France did not begin with Macron, and the remains of Napoleon, revered at the state level, rest in the centre of Paris. France - and Russia - should understand, " Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

 

" In general, Macron is priceless," she said, adding that his remarks showed the West had engaged in discussions about regime change in Russia while Macron had repeatedly sought meetings with the Russian leadership.

 

Macron has drawn criticism from some NATO allies for delivering mixed messages regarding his policy on the war between Ukraine and Russia, with some considering Paris a weak link in the Western alliance.

 

On Friday, Macron urged allies to step up military support for Ukraine, but also said he did not believe in regime change and that there would have to be negotiations at some point.

 

" Let's be clear, I don't believe for one second in regime change, and when I hear a lot of people calling for regime change I ask them, 'For which change? Who's next? Who is your leader?'"

 

Clarifying those comments, he said in the paper that he did not believe a democratic solution from within civil society would emerge in Russia after years of a hardening of Moscow's position and conflict. He added that he saw no alternative to Putin, who had to be brought back to the negotiating table.

 

" All the options other than Vladimir Putin in the current system seem worse to me," Macron said.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 19, 2023 :The vice mayor of Appari in Cagayan and five of his companions were shot and killed by unidentified men clad in police uniforms and riding in a government car in Bagadag town in Nueva Vizcaya on Sunday.

 

Nueva Vizcaya police information officer Major Jolly Villar said in a phone interview that Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda, who is serving his third term as vice mayor, and five of his aides and companions were traveling in a Hyundai Starex van on their way to Aparri when they were waylaid by the gunmen in Sitio (sub-village) Kinacao in Barangay (village) Baretbet at 8.45 a.m.

 

Investigations revealed that the suspects were wearing police uniforms with masks and were using a white Mitsubishi Adventure with a red license plate number SFN 713, indicating that it was a government car.

 

The killers allegedly barricaded the section of street in front of MV Duque Elementary School in Baretbet. WHen Alameda's car arrived, they peppered the vehicle with bullets.

 

The vice mayor and his companions died on the spot but were still taken to the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center where they were declared dead on arrival. The report did not identify the names of the vice mayor's companions.

 

The killers later fled going to Solano area.

HOME MINISTRY FINALISING NEW MALAYSIA - INDONESIA BORDER CROSSING : SAIFUDDIN

TUMPAT, KELANTAN (FEBRUARY 18, 2023): The Home Ministry (KDN) is currently engaged in finalising the new border crossing between Malaysia and Indonesia following the development of Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara, in Kalimantan. 

 

Its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the new border crossing is among the matters discussed by both countries under the Cross Border Agreement (CBA).

 

" Our prime minister has been to Indonesia, we will have a new border crossing with Nusantara.

 

" The Home Ministry will now be involved in finalising the CBA that we hope will be settled soon," he told reporters after inspecting the Pengkalan Kubor Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (CIQs) here today.

 

During the visit, he took the opportunity to view the border controls along Sungai Golok that acts as the country's border with neighbouring Thailand.

 

Saifuddin share three components would be finalised about the new border crossing.

 

" We will identify the 'point to point' crossing on our side and the Indonesian's side, how wide an area we will cover under the agreement and the categories of residents (near the border crossing).

 

" In terms of the scheduling tentatively, Indonesian president Jokowi's (Joko Widodo) official visit to Malaysia this year will include the signing of the agreement," he added.
