ISTANBUL, TURKI:Presiden Turki, Recep Tayyip Erdogan pada 18 Julai 2022 (Isnin) memperbaharui ancamannya untuk 'MEMBEKUKAN' tawaran keahlian Pertubuhan Perjanjian Atlantik Utara (NATO) kepada Sweden dan juga Finland, melainkan pakatan tentera itu mematuhi syarat Ankara.

Pada sidang kemuncak NATO di Madrid pada akhir Jun 2022, Erdogan menyeru kedua-dua negara untuk 'melaksanakan bahagian mereka' dalam memerangi keganasan selain menuduh mereka menyediakan tempat perlindungan bagi militan Kurdish.

Sebelum sidang kemuncak tiga (3) penjuru dengan Russia dan Iran, Erdogan berkata kepada pemberita bahawa, ' beliau mengulangi sekali lagi akan membekukan proses jika negara-negara itu tidak mengambil langkah yang perlu untuk memenuhi syarat mereka.'

" Kami amat menyedari bahawa Sweden tidak mempunyai imej yang baik mengenai isu ini," tambah pemimpin Turki itu.

Awal bulan Julai 2022, NATO memulakan prosedur penyertaan untuk Sweden dan Finlad selepas perjanjian dicapai dengan Turki, yang sebelum ini menghalang negara-negara Nordik daripada menyertai mereka.

Erdogan menuduh kedua-dua negara sebagai tempat perlindungan militan Kurdish, yang menonjolkan Parti Pekerja Kurdistan (PKK) yang diharamkan dan mempromosikan 'KEGANASAN'.

Di Washington, jurucakap Jabatan Negara, Ned Price tidak menjawab secara langsung apabila ditanya mengenai kenyataan Erdogan tetapi merujuk kepada lampu hijau Turki semasa sidang kemuncak NATO terhadap keahlian NATO bagi negara-negara Nordic.

" Turki, Finland, Sweden, mereka menandatangani memorandum tiga (3) hala di Madrid untuk menggerakkan proses ini.

" Amerika Syarikat (AS) akan terus bekerjasama dengan ketiga-tiga negara itu untuk memastikan bahawa proses penyertaan dan ratifikasi ini - di sini dan di seluruh dunia - adalah sepantas dan cekap yang mungkin," kata Price kepada pemberita.

Erdogan dijangka menaiki pesawat ke Tehran pada 18 Julai 2022 (Isnin) untuk rundingan dengan Presiden Russia, Vladimir Putin dan Presiden Iran, Ebrahim Raissi, yang mana diharap mendapat lampu hijau untuk campur tangan bersenjata di barat laut Syria.

Ankara sudah pun menyatakan ancaman itu sejak akhir Mei untuk melancarkan operasi bagi mewujudkan 'Zon Keselamatan' sepanjang 30 kilometer di sepanjang sempadannya bagi menangani pejuang Kurdish yang melancarkan pemberontakan terhadap negara Turki.

Tehran dan juga Moscow pula menyatakan bantahan mereka terhadap serangan sedemikian. Russia, Turki dan Iran adalah pemain utama dalam perang yang melanda Syria sejak Tahun 2011, dengan Moscow dan juga Tehran menyokong rejim Bashar Al-Assad dan Ankara menyokong pemberontak.

SEPARATION OF AGC FAILED DUE TO LACK OF POLITICAL WILL - SAYS THOMAS

PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR :Former attorney-general (AG) Tommy Thomas has blamed a lack of political will for the failure to separate the offices of the AG and the public prosecutor during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.

He said the separation would require reforms to Article 147 and other provisions in the Federal Constitution.

" It would require a constitutional amendment, which means a two-thirds majority vote (in Parliament). PH never had this majority, so it was just not possible, " he said during the Conference on Necessary Pre-GE15 Reforms jointly organised by the Bar Council and electoral reform group Bersih.

Thomas was responding to a question on why he did not push for such reforms during the 22 months he served as AG, from 2018 to March 2020.

However, he conceded that the PH government had managed to amend the Constitution on one occasion, which was the passing of the Undi 18 and automatic voter registration bill.

" What happened was the minister in charge was very much involved. He took ownership and managed to convince his fellow MPs to unanimously support it," he said, referring to Muda President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Thomas added that while both he and the Bar Council supported the separation of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), he did not think it was an all-encompassing solution.

" Let's say the AGC is split into three (3) departments, each with its own head. That ipso facto doesn't solve the problem unless the three (3) office holders, at the apex, are people of integrity.

" People forget about that part. Where are we going to find top-class talents who have integrity and honesty?" Thomas asked.

Meanwhile, lawyer Andrew Yong, who authored Bersih's research paper, made several recommendations on separating the offices of the AG and the public prosecutor.

" It's valuable for the prime minister to continue retaining the flexibility to appoint whoever is the best candidate for AG, whether from within or outside Parliament," Yong said.

He added that the public prosecutor should, with the court's consent, have the ability to take over the conduct of any prosecution.

" Parliament should also have the power to direct the public prosecutor to consult with the AG while remaining independent."

KUALA LUMPUR MALAYSIA, 06 JULY 2022 (WEDNESDAY) : Former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on July 06, 2022 sought to justify why he had not asked two (2) businessmen where their 2016 donations totalling RM 7 million originated from, saying donors to charities must get the benefit of doubt on how they raised funds.

Testifying in his defence in his corruption and money laundering trial, Ahmad Zahid also suggested it would be " funny " to ask donors whether their contributions were from legal or illegal sources.

Asked regarding seven cheques worth RM 5 million - issued by Mastoro Kenny IT Consultant & Services - which textile wholesaler Junaith Asharab Md Shariff had given to him at his house in 2016, Ahmad Zahid said these cheques were given as a donation to develop a mosque and tahfiz school in Bagan Datuk as agreed verbally between him and Junaith Asharab.

Ahmad Zahid said the RM 5 million worth of cheques were given to him on an "akad " or a verbal agreement as witnessed by Ahmad Zahid's younger brother Datuk Seri Mohamad Nasaee Ahmad Tarmizi, who had come with Junaith Asharab to the house.

Besides saying that he was uncertain what Nasaee's connection was with the cheques, Ahmad Zahid said he did not know Mastoro Kenny at all and that it was not related to himself personally.

Asked if he had told Junaith to inform Mastoro Kenny for these cheques to be issued, Ahmad Zahid said: " Yang Arif, I do not know Mastoro Kenny, don't know Mastoro or any others, I know Junaith who handled funds from his family." He later also said he did not ask Junaith about his relationship to the company Mastoro Kenny.

Asked if he knew the cheques were from Mastoro Kenny upon receiving them physically from Junaith, Ahmad Zahid again claimed to have no such knowledge and that he did not see the name " Mastoro Kenny " on the cheque ".

" I know the cheques were donations by Junaith, from what sources including Mastoro Kenny, I never knew, because I sangka baik (gave the benefit of doubt) that it is donations as testified by Junaith in this court," he said.

Asked if the issuer of the RM5 million cheques was not important to him as there was an " akad " and he believed and trusted Junaith who allegedly intended to make a donation, Ahmad Zahid said: " Yang Arif, Junaith already testified in court, he comes from a wealthy family, how could I question him? Because he would like to donate, I should not ask him where is the money coming from. I know he comes from wealthy family and his in-laws also come from a rich family in India.

" Yang Arif, it's very funny, when somebody is donating to your organisation, then you ask the donor, is this money legal or illegal or from illegal activities. In this matter, ' husnuzon' is important, and on the matter or funds for matters related religion, certainly we would have confidence and trust towards the persons donating or that organisation would have the intention that they are also able to get ' pahala ' (divine rewards)," he added.

Throughout the trial on July 06, Ahmad Zahid frequently cited the term " husnuzon" of the call in Islam to give others the benefit of doubt, when repeatedly explaining his view of the millions in ringgit of donations by businessmen which he insisted were for the charity Yayasan Akalbudi.

Ahmad Zahid is a trustee of and the sole signatory for cheques for Yayasan Akalbudi, a foundation established with the aim of eradicating poverty and helping the poor.

Just like for many of the donations highlighted in this trial, Ahmad Zahid confirmed that there was no letter either from Junaith Asharab or Mastoro Kenny to confirm the RM 5 million worth of cheques' purpose for a mosque and tahfiz school in Bagan Datuk, but disagreed that the intentions for the contribution could always change if it is not written down.

Ahmad Zahid confirmed he had asked Junaith Asharab to write down law firm Lewis & Co as the recipients for the RM 5 million cheques, as he would usually tell donors for Yayasan Akalbudi to make their cheques payable to the foundation's alleged trustee Lewis & Co. Ahmad Zahid has insisted that Lewis & Co has a client account to keep funds on behalf of Yayasan Akalbudi.

He also explained he would usually ask his political or ministry's officers to send such cheques to Lewis & Co to be banked in to the law firm's client account which allegedly held funds on trust for Yayasan Akalbudi, later also saying that he did not personally deliver such cheques to the law firm due to his very tight schedule as the " number two in the country then " - alluding to his past position as the deputy prime minister.

Junaith Asharab Md Shariff is seen at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in this February 19, 2020 (Businessman Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin from his personal bank account in November 2016 and which was allegedly given as a donation which was banked in to Lewis & Co's client account).

Asked if he had asked Mubarak Hussain about the source of the RM 2 million donation, Ahmad Zahid instead said he knew his brother who is also businessman and a youth chief of one of UMNO's divisions in Kuala Lumpur.

Asked how he was able to conclude that the donations worth RM 7 million given by both Junaith and Mubarak Hussain are not funds from illegal activities, Ahmad zahid replied: " Mubarak and his siblings carry out businesses, and Junaith also as I have stated when this witness was in court, that donation done was from his family, I don't think they come from a ' kongsi gelap ' (gangster or triad) family."

When deputy public prosecutor Harris Ong Mohd Jeffery Ong suggested that this was merely his " assumption " based on his friendship with them and his observation, Ahmad Zahid insisted that this was not an issue of assumption but about integrity and suggested that donors should not be questioned.

Ahmad Zahid also asked if there was proof that these two (2) donors were being probed by the police or the authorities over any money laundering offences or over income being obtained from illegal activities.

In response to the suggestion that he would bot care about the source of funds if it is meant for charity, Ahmad Zahid maintained his earlier answer and said: " If donations are given, do I have to ask? "

Asked again if he would accept funds if it is for charity without questioning and if he views the donors as having good and sincere intentions for charity, Ahmad Zahid again stressed: " We must 'sangka baik, husnuzon' (give the benefit of doubt)."

These RM 7 million worth of cheques given by the two (2) businessmen as " donations " were subsequently placed by Lewis & Co into fixed deposits, and the law firm had later withdrew the fixed deposits in order to issue a RM 5.9 million cheque for the 2017 purchase of two (2) houses, described as " bungalows " in Country Heights.

Ahmad Zahid is facing 47 charges, namely 12 counts of criminal breach of trust in relation to RM 31 million of charitable foundation Yayasan Akalbudi's funds, 27 counts of money-laundering, and eight (8) counts of bribery charges.

One of the 27 money-laudnering charges that Ahmad Zahid is facing alleges that he had engaged directly in a transaction that involves proceeds of unlawful activity, by giving instruction to buy the two " bungalow lots " for RM 5.9 million using a cheque issued by the law firm Lewis & Co via a client account at Maybank, with the funds said to be illegal proceeds.

The trial before High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah resumes on July 07, 2022 (Thursday), with Harris Ong expected to continue cross-examining Ahmad Zahid on the money laundering charges.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA : A government official's comment telling people to eat fewer eggs if they cannot afford it due to recent price hikes has drawn a significant amount of flak on social media!

Norena Jaafar, the Melaka Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs Minsitry director, who was seen in a video interview telling the people to ear fewer eggs, enraged many on social media with some saying she did not understand the hardship faced by those in the lower-income group.

On Twitter, Wani S said: " I think for many who cannot afford (other food like fish)...eggs are their staple source of protein. But now, it is also expensive. How are they going to cope? By eating less or starving ?

" Malnourishment is already a big problem... but with current price hikes, I cannot imagine how much worse it will become."

Facebook user Nurul Safidah and Bob Maley said there are families who live on eggs as their main meals as that is all they can afford.

" If eggs go up in price (further), what will be their fate?" she asked, adding that people in high positions should not make such statements.

Zidan Ananda said Norena's statement showed that she was unaware that eggs constitute the main dish for those who are struggling.

Another Internet user by the name Pavithra Raja said not all could afford the hike in prices and urged ministry officials to think before making such bullshit statements.

In the video, which went viral on Friday (July 02, 2022), Norena is heard saying that if consumers know the price of eggs are rising, they should then consume fewer.

" If in a week we usually eat around 20 eggs, we can reduce it to 10 or 15 eggs.

" There is no problem, it is our way of life," she said to the media after visiting a local market in Melaka.

The ministry's secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof later said that Norena " may have her own way that is not very acceptable by the public".

2# GLASS BEACH - USA

Pantai ini dipenuhi dengan barangan terbuang mesti tidak cantik di mata mahupun ia amat merimaskan kita. Tetapi, untuk pantai yang satu ini, ianya sebaliknya!

Terhasil daripada bahan buangan yang dibuang pada abad ke-20 yang lalu, pantai ini dipenuhi dengan cebisan kaca dan juga porselin. Ia telah dikikis oleh air laut sehingga licin dan tertolak ke pantai. Ia mungkin nampak pelik pada mulanya, namun ia agak menarik untuk dilihat dan juga dihayati. Kita tidak boleh mengambil kaca-kaca ini, tapi ia juga tak bermakna kita tidak boleh menikmati pemandangannya.

Juga dikenali sebagai pantai tersembunyi. Playa De Amor terletak di satu kawasan yang dahulunya digunakan untuk menguji senjara perang. Pantai ini terletak di dalam gaung yang terbentuk akibat daripada impak letupan bom pada satu ketika.

Berenang di sini agak berbahaya disebabkan oleh adanya batu dan juga ombak yang amat kuat tetapi ia sememangnya satu tempat yang amat cantik untuk santai-santai dan relaks kan minda kita. Malah, pengunjung juga boleh melihat ikan paus di sini dan ia semestinya pengalaman yang terindah dan amat berbaloi.

4# GREENFIELD BEACH - AUSTRALIA

Greenfield Beach letaknya hanya beberapa jam dari Bondi Beach yang sangat popular di Bandar Sydney, Australia. Tetapi pantai ini juga masih tetap dikenali sehampir dengan popularity Hyams Beach. Namun, tidak ramai yang tahu tentang kewujudan pantai Greenfield ini.

Jika berkunjung ke Pantai Greenfield Beach ini, pastikan kita membawa cermin mata hitam kerana pantai ini sangat putih sehingga menyilaukan mata kita. Untuk tujuan ke pantai tersebut, kita akan mulakan perjalanan untuk melalui hutan pokok eukaliptus dan tiba-tiba akan muncul di pantai yang serba memutih ini. Ia satu pengalaman yang begitu menakjubkan.

5# PRAIA DA SALEMA - PORTUGAL

Bahagian barat Algarve tidak terbentuk sepantas bahagian persisiran selatan Portugal. Namun, itu sesuaty yang amat baik. Di sini, tersimpannya satu permata pra sejarah yang amat unik sekali.

Sangat indah untuk diceritakan, bukan sahaja disebabkan oleh rupa pantainya yang serba putih dan juga warna air laut yang membiru, tetapi juga disebabkan oleh jejas kaki dinasour yang dikatakan masih ada di permukaan batu kapur di sini. Ada banyak aktiviti menarik yang boleh kita kunjungi dan lakukan di sini selain daripada aktiviti mandi-manda ataupun santai-santai lepak di tepian pantai di bawah sinaran cahaya matahari.

6# CALA GONONE - SARDINIE

Antara perkara paling sukar untuk dilakukan ketika mencari pantai tercantik di Sardine ialah untuk mencari pantai yang tidak akan menelan belanja yang begitu besar. Maka, dengan itulah Pantai Cala Gonone tawarkan kepada semua pengunjung.

Ini agak luar biasa kerana pantai ini terletak di kejiranan yang mewah dan juga mahal. Pantai Cala Gonore mempunyai pasir pantai yang memutih dengan batu-batu kecil yang begitu menarik. Ia amat sepadan dengan warna air laut yang membiru dan juga tenang, sesuai untuk semua aktiviti seperti berenang, snorkeling. Pengunjung juga boleh menjalankan aktiviti menerokai gua yang ada berdekatan di pantai tersebut.

7# SUNJ - CROATIA

Mencari pantai yang mempunyai pasir agak sukar untuk dilakukan di Bandar Croatia kerana kebanyakan pantai di sini hanyalah berbatu. Nasib baiklah ada Sunj, iaitu salah satu pantai yang berpasir yang ada di Bandar Croatia. Ia selamat untuk aktiviti berenang kerana airnya tidaklah begitu dalam. Ada pelbagai aktiviti pantai yang ada di Sunj dan pengunjung sudah pasti tidak akan berasa bosan. Mereka yang sukakan aktiviti hiking pula bolehlah menerokai kehijauan hutan yang mengelilingi pantai tersebut.

8# RAMLA I - HAMZA GOCO - MALTA

Pepasir pantai yang berwarna sedikit keperangan merupakan keunikan pantai ini. Apabila ia bergabung dengan bunyi deruan ombak laut yang membiru, ia memberikan pemandangan yang begitu menakjubkan.

Air laut di sini merupakan antara air yang paling jernih di kawasan Mediterranean. Jadi, jangan kita sebagai pengunjung terlepas untuk snorkel dan juga menikmati pemandangan bawah laut. Kawasan ini mungkin kekurangan kemudahan tandas dan juga tempat mandi, tetapi pemandangannya akan membuatkan ia berbaloi untuk kita lawati.

9# PRAIA DA FORTALEZA - BRAZIL

Pantai yang terpencil ini letaknya di pulau yang tiada satu pun kenderaan. Mungkin agak sukar untuk datang ke sini, tetapi ianya amat berbaloi walaupun ada sedikit cabaran pengangkutan. Pemandangan pantai ini membuatkan berbaloinya ianya dikunjungi.

Lihat sahaja pemandangan dan nikmatilah pemandangan yang jauh saujana memandang. Pantai ini sesuai untuk kepelbagaian aktiviti seperti surfing, berenang dan juga semestinya khas kepada pengemas aktiviti hiking. Malah terdapat juga kubu laut yang terletak tidak jauh sekiranya ada yang berminat untuk berjalan kaki dan juga menerokai sekitar pantai ini.

Bandar Kyoto adalah merupakan sebuah bandar yang mempunyai banyak tokong suci. Dikatakan juga bahawa terdapatnya sebuah pantai di Kyoto yang menjadi jambatan penyambung ke syurga.

Terdapat tebing pasir sejauh dua batu yang dipenuhi dengan pokok nenas di sini. Pengunjung boleh melalui jalan yang sering dilalui pengunjung yang lain ataupun melencong dan menemui pantai terpencil dan menikmasti waktu sunyi kita di sini. Kita akan merasakan seperti pantai tersebut milik diri kita. Kedua-dua ini akan memberikan pemandangan dan pengalaman yang manis dan terindah kepada kita.

11# GRAZE BAY - KEPULAUAN TURK DAN CAICOS

Grace Bay dikatakan menjadi pantai terbaik menurut TripAdvisor. Ia mempunayi pantai yang sangat putih dan airnya berwarna sangat biru. Kedua-dua warna alam ini membentuk satu harmoni yang sempurna. Tempat ini boleh dijadikan tempat untuk mengecas kembali tenaga diri kita atas kesibukan selama ini dan penah lelah.

12# WHITEHAVEN BEACH - AUSTRALIA

Pantai ini adalah sebahagian daripada The Great Barrier Reef. Whitehaven Beach mempunyai pasir yang begitu lembut dan putih serta dikelilingi oleh hutan yang hijau memukau.

Di sesetengah bahagian pantai ini, ia bagaikan belum pernah disentuh oleh manusia. Ia seolah-olah tidak pernah melihat seorang manusia pun menerokainya. Ia hanya boleh diakses melalui helikopter, bot ataupun kapal terbang. Pengunjung akan merasakan seolah-olah kembali ke masa lalu ketika berada di pantai ini.
