MALAYSIA AT LIST OF ' VERY HIGH RISK ' DESTINATIONS - UNITED STATES

MALAYSIA AT LIST OF ' VERY HIGH RISK ' DESTINATIONS - UNITED STATES

PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR : Malaysia has been added to the list of " very high risk " travel destinations by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Countries are placed at " Level 4 : COVID-19 Very High " risk when more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents are registered over a period of 28 days.

According to a CNN report, three other countries were also added to the Level 4 list on February 22, 2022 namely as Bhutan, Brunei and also Iran. Malaysia was at Level 3 last week.

As reported on February 22, 2022, 7,747 non-critical COVID-19 beds in hospitals and low risk treatment centres were being utilised by patients, or 66% of the total capacity. COVID-19 ICUs were at 34% of total capacity of 836 beds.

The CDC warned travellers against visiting countries in the Level 4 list.

" You should interpret Level 4 to mean this is a place with a lot of community transmission of COVID-19. So, if you go, there is a higher chance that you could contract the coronavirus," according to CNN medical analyst Dr Leana Wen.

Other tourist hotspots in an earlier Level 4 list include Mexico, Canada, France, Peru, Singapore, and Spain. The United Kingdom has been on Level 4 since July year 2021.

In its wider travel advisory, the CDC recommended avoiding all international travel for those who are not fully vaccinated.

UNITED NATION MYANMAR EXPERT REPORTED JUNTA USING NEW RUSSIAN, CHINESE ARMS AGAINST CIVILIANS

UNITED NATION MYANMAR EXPERT REPORTED JUNTA USING NEW RUSSIAN, CHINESE ARMS AGAINST CIVILIANS

GENEVA - The United Nations human rights expert on Myanmar on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 and reported Russia and China were providing the junta with fighter jets being used against civilians, and urged the United Nation Security Council to halt the flow of weapons enabling atrocities.

Thomas Andrews, a former United States congressman serving in the independent post, released a report that also named Serbia as one of three (3) countries supplying arms to the Myanmar military since it seized power last year, with " full knowledge that they would be used to attack civilians."

" It should be incontrovertible that weapons used to kill civilians should no longer be transferred to Myanmar, " Andrews was reported.

Chaos has gripped Myanmar since a coup ended a decade of tentative democracy and triggering nationwide protests that troops suppressed with lethal force.

At least 1, 500 civilians have been killed, according to activists cited by the United Nation, which also says more than 300,000 people have been displaced by rural conflict between the military and armed opponents.

The junta says it is fighting " terrorists " and objects to what it calls United States interference.

Myanmar's military and the foreign ministries of China, Russia, and Serbia could not immediately be reached for comment on the report.

Human rights groups and the United Nation have accused the junta of using disproportionate force to fight militias and ethnic minority rebels, including artillery and air strikes in civilians areas.

Reporters also reported that Russia had supplied drones, two types of fighter jets, and two kinds of armoured vehicles, one with air defence systems. China transferred fighter jets while Serbia had provided rockets and artillery shells, it said.

The United Nation General Assembly adopted a resolution last year calling on members to halt arms transfers to Myanmar's military, which Andrews said the security council should make binding.

Serbia voted in favour of the resolution, but Russia and China abstained.

While China has urged an end to hostilities in Myanmar, Russia has been the general's closest diplomatic ally amid efforts by the West to isolate them.

Andrews also called for cutting the Myanmar military's access to oil and gas revenue and foreign exchange reserves, plus international bans on purchases of Myanmar timber, gemstones, and rare earths.

Myanmar's rulers were vulnerable and could be stopped with international resolve, he said in the report.

" If revenues necessary to maintain such a military are reduced, the junta's capacity to assault and terrorise the people of Myanmar will diminish, " he said.

JAIL FOR REFUSING COVID-19 JAB UNDER NEW LAW - UGANDANS WOULD FACE FINES !

JAIL FOR REFUSING COVID-19 JAB UNDER NEW LAW - UGANDANS WOULD FACE FINES

KAMPALA, UGANDAS - Uganda plans to impose fines on people who refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and those who fail to pay could be sent to prison under a new public health law which lawmakers are scrutinising, parliament reported on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Although the East African country started administering COVID-19 jabs nearly a year ago, only about 16 million jabs have been administered in a population of 45 million, with officials blaming widespread reluctance for the low coverage.

Parliament's house health committee has begun scrutinising Public Health (Amendment) Bill 2021 which seeks to make coronavirus vaccinations mandatory.

The new law proposes a fine of 4 million Ugandan shillings ($1, 139) for those who fail to get vaccinated.

" According to the proposal, those who do not get vaccinated against COVID-19 will be fined 4 million shillings or (receive) a jail term of six months," parliament said in a statement on its website.

The parliament statement quoted health minister Jane Ruth Aceng as telling lawmakers on the committee that mandatory vaccinations would ensure enough people are vaccinated so that " we create mass immunity. It is important that whoever is supposed to be vaccinated, is vaccinated."

The statement did not say when the proposed law was likely to be brought before all members of parliament for approval.

Uganda fully re-opened its economy last month after two (2) years of anti-coronavirus measures that included curfews, businesses and school closures, the shutting of borders and other steps.

The strict measures helped curb the pandemic but drew widespread criticism from Ugandans whose businesses and livelihoods were affected.

The country has recorded about 163,000 cases of COVID-19 and 3,500 deaths, health ministry data show.

( $1 = 3, 510.0000 Uganda Shillings )

ANTI - VIRUS CONTROLS FOR CORONAVIRUS MIGHT BE TIGHTENED IN HONG KONGS

ANTI - VIRUS CONTROLS FOR CORONAVIRUS MIGHT BE TIGHTENED IN HONG KONGS

HONG KONG : Stringent Anti - Virus controls that ban public gatherings in Hong Kong of more than two (2) people might be tightened to stop a surge in infections, the territory's top health official said on Sunday, February 20, 2022 as 14 deaths and more than 6,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported.

Health Secretary Sophia Chan, speaking on a radio program that day, gave no details of possible new restrictions and called on the public to stay at home.

Hong Kong already is operating under its strictest curbs on travel, business and public activity since the pandemic of COVID-19 began. In place since February 10, 2022 they also prohibit gatherings of more than two (2) households. Restaurants, hair salons and religious sites were ordered closed.

The territory had 6,067 confirmed cases in the previous 24 hours. That was close to Thursday's 6,116 cases, its highest daily total yet.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said last week the rapid spread of the Omicron Variant was overwhelming Hong Kong Hospitals. The government reported on Thursday that 90% of hospital beds were filled.

To ease the pressure, construction crews from mainland China will build isolation units for 10,000 people after crowding at hospitals forced patients to wait outdoors in winter cold.

Also on Sunday, February 20, 2022 the government reports Environment Secretary Wong Kam-Sing would work from home after his driver received a preliminary positive virus test result. Wong tested negative but he and his driver will undergo additional testing soon.

OF UNITED KINGDOM AND CITIZENSHIP

OF UNITED KINGDOM AND CITIZENSHIP : NST LEADER

IF controversy - ridden Britain had its way, it would have rushed the citizenship-stripping Nationality and Border Bill through Parliament before the United Nations could make public its discriminatory and unlawful provisions.

UN human rights experts did just that on Wednesday by going public with their concerns about the proposed law's arbitrary citizenship-stripping powers in their 12-page letter to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

Their particular worry is rightly directed at Clause 9 or the Nationality and Border Bill, which empowers the secretary of state for the home department " to deprive a person of his British nationality without notice under a range of circumstances ".

There are quite a few but one such empowers the minister to do away with the obligation to give notice if information is not available.

This is a textbook definition of arbitrariness. On what grounds does the minister decide to strip the citizenship of a British national if no information is available ? Colour of the skin ? Or faith ?

The United Nation human rights expert's worry isn't groundless. Take section 40(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981.

Media analysis, which the experts quote, shows that two (2) in every five people from non-white backgrounds are likely to be eligible for the deprivation of their British nationality under section 40(2), compared with one in 20 people categorised as white. " We are concerned that the United Kingdom practice of depriving people of citizenship may have a disproportionate impact on people from non-white racial and ethnic backgrounds, and especially people from Muslim and migrant communities."

While section 40(2) applies to white and non-white people, Clause 9 appears to be directed at Muslims and migrants, precisely the concerns highlighted by the United Nation human rights experts.

Sure, the United Nation human rights experts must be applauded for exposing the United Kingdom's discriminatory policies and practice.

But exposure is one thing; doing something about it is another. The United Nation is known for not doing things.

Our fear is that this may be just another UN letter that Britain may place in  the " Keep From View " file on the advice of Home Secretary Priti Patel, whose handiwork the Nationality and Borders Bill is.

And the United Nation would choose not to do anything about it as it is in the habit of doing. Little wonder, people call it a talkshop.

After all, Britain sits in one of the five (5) permanent seats of the United Nation Security Council wielding a veto to stop any effort to make it a humane nation, should such a resolution ever make it there.

As this United Nation human rights experts' letter is being read, Patel is busy with the appointment of Australia's former foreign minister Alexander Downer, " The Architect Of Australia's Harsh Immigration Policy ", as the news portal Middle East Eye describes him, to help make Britain's already inhumane border patrols more inhumane.

True, Australia's push-back policies and practices have been harshly criticised by the UN before. Still, they continue. All the United Nation reports are just wasted ink and pulp. Britain will do the same. First, Brexit and Now, Globexit.
