How to wear Tradition Songket

KAIN SONGKET

The existence of songket dates back a few hundred years ago with its origin believed to have started in India Country. Only royalty such as Sultans and Kings traditionally wears it. Nowadays, it is available for anyone to wear or use.

Songket is a hand-women piece of brocaded (textured) fabric consisting of either cotton, polyester or silk as the base material with gold or silver threads making up its elaborate designs as the pattern decorating the songket in parts or in full.

TRADITION
Songket is traditionally considered an exquisite, luxurious and prestigious traditional fabric, only worn for special occasions, religious festivals, and traditional social functions. it has become a required garment for brides and grooms for their weddings, as in the traditional wedding constumes of Palembang, Minangkabau and Bali.

Today, Songket is mostly worn in traditional settings as traditional consumes for weddings or any traditional ceremonies. Several efforts has been conducted to promote songket as a popular fabric for fashion, either locally and abroad. During the Dutch colonial era, West Sumatran songket were exhibited in the Netherlands. The Sawahlunto Songket Carnival was held in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra in August 2015. The Songket carnival featured a parade and exhibition with participants from numbers of songket studios across West Sumatra. The carnival, held on 28 August 2015, was recorded in the Indonesian Museum of Records for the most people wearing songket at a same time, with 17,290 people wearing Silungkang songket during the event.

SONGET PATTERNS

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

There are hundreds of songket patterns. In Palembang tradition, songket is inseparable from the lives of the people who wear it during important events such as births, marriages, and death. Examples of Palembang songket patterns are naga besaung, pucuk rebung, biji pare, bintang berante, bintang kayu apuy, bungo mawar, bungo melati, bungo cino, bungo jepang, bungo intan, bungo pacik, cantik manis, tigo negeri, leupus berakam, pulir, tabur limar and nampan perak.

HOW TO WEAR SONGKET ?

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

The songket has a head (kepala) and body (badan), where one would step into the samping whilst holding the ends at arms' length. He would then position the "head" of the songket at the back of his body (ie. at the butt) and fold in one side first, then the other side to the middle, then twisting the ends which now come together in the middle by rolling it downwards the body towards the torso.

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

When the bottom of the songket is just slightly below the knee, stop rolling and 'clean-up' any loose or jutting ends.

Songket is available for both men and women.

Top 5 Benefits of Isotonic Drinks and Top 10 Most Popular Brand of Isotonic Drinks

WHAT TYPES OF SPORT DRINK ?

The term 'Isotonic' describes a solution that is of a similar 'thickness' or concentration (tonicity) as another solution. In this case it refers to a drink being of similar concentration to human blood (~285 - 295mOsm/kg).

This matters in the world of sports drinks because whether a drink is hypotonic (lower concentration that blood), isotonic (about the same concentration) or hypertonic (higher concentration) affects how much energy (carbohydrate) it can deliver and how quickly you can absorb it into your blood stream to replace the fluid you're losing in your sweat.

As with most things in life this all boils down to a couple of key trade offs.

ISOTONIC DRINKS
Isotonic drinks are those which mimic the balance of salt and sugar normally found in the body; usually with carbohydrate also; normally at about 6 to 8% carbohydrate by volume. Isotonic drinks rapidly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost of carbohydrate. Such drinks are the preferred choice for the majority of athletes - middle and long distance running or team sports.

BENEFITS OF ISOTONIC DRINKS
Vigorous exercise helps promote heart health, weight loss and overall fitness, but it can also make you sweat one to three quarts of fluid during intense works outs. Although sweating is your body's way to help keep its core temperature cool, it can lead to the loss of important minerals, dehydration and heat stroke. Isotonic drinks replace those nutrients and fluids quickly helping to prevent exercise-related injuries and illness.

a). Electrolytes

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

Electrolytes are essential minerals that help maintain the acid-base balance in your body's cells of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate, phosphate and sulphate.

b). Identification

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

Sports drinks are classified three ways: isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic, depending upon the amount of carbohydrates they contain. Isotonic fluids have six to eight percent carbohydrates, including glucose -  your body's preferred energy source for exercise. Isotonic drinks have an osmolatily of 280 to 330 mOsm/kg, a measure of the number particles of carbohydrates, electrolytes, sweeteners and preservatices in a fluid. The osmolality rating of isotonic drinks best approximates that of your body's natural fluid balance, which is one reason why these drinks are so popular among runners and other endurance athletes.

c). Endurance

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

The isotonic hydration allowed the athletes to continue high-intensity, stop-start activity up to 24 percent longer than those who drank a placebo solution.

d). Glucose

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

The carbohydrates glycogen, which is converted to glucose and stored in your liver/muscles, requires less oxygen to be burned for fuel than protein or fat. In a typical male athlete, for example, the liver stores 90gm of glycogen and the muscles store 400gm. During hard exercise, carbohydrate stores can be depleted at a rate of three to four grams per minute, which can almost exhaust your body's supplies in exercise sustained at two hours or more. It would ordinarily take 24 - 48 hours for your body to naturally replenish those supplies, but an isotonic drink can return the glycogen balance to your body much more quickly.

e). Hydration

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

It would seem logical to consume water during exercise when you're sweating, but water can cause bloating-and it doesn't contain carbohydrate or electrolytes. The higher the carbohydrate level in a drink, the slower the rate of stomach emptying. Isotonic drinks empty from the stomach at a rate similar to water, reducing urine output and encouraging fluid retention to prevent dehydration.

TOP 10 MOST POPULAR BRAND OF ISOTONIC DRINKS

#1 - Gatorade

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

Enough flavour-no sugars and no crap- probably the best of the breed from a nutritional point of view.

TRAVEL CONCIERGE (DINE)

a). Singapore - Not Impossible

https://www.jacknjillscute.blogspot.com/

- Will the future be meatless? Decide for yourself in Singapore, where you'll find Impossible Foods' plant-based "meat" products served at eight partner restaurants, including Park Bench Deli, Bread Street Kitchen and Price Orchard. What makes this different from your genetic soy burger patties is the magic ingredient, "hemes" - a combination of soy protein and a genetically engineered yeast that makes it look and feel like meat. Each partner restaurant will use the Impossible Meat patty as a meat substitute in a variety of dishes. At Park Bench Deli, you'll find it in the Impossible Patty Melt, while at Potato Head Singapore and Three Buns Quayside, you'll find it in the Orchard, it's used to make the Lucy Impossible Meatball Spaghetti and Impossible Satay Sliders. Celebrity restaurants aren't missing out on this trend, with Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen serving it on the Impossible Flatbread pizza; Wolfgang Puck's Cut using it for the Impossible Slider, and Adrift by David Myers rolling it up in the Impossible Sausage Roll.

The third floor houses the Arriviamo cocktail bar, which serves speciality cocktails like the Nakameguro Espresso Martini (chestnut liqueur, creme de cacao and espresso) and Coffee Crusta (brandy, citrus, coffee and cherry liqueur). AMU Inspiration Lounge, a community space that will occasionally host workshops featuring "change-makers" and creative thinkers from Japan, is on the top floor. The roasters is set to offer more than 100 coffee and tea options, so know what you want before getting stuck at the order counter.
